Our Lineage
My teacher, Dr Tennyson Yiu had an exceptional martial arts education. His unique situation in Hong Kong gave him access to every master who wished to teach there. He was adopted and loved by many and taught styles both rare and unique. All he learnt was taught by the leaders of those styles at that time. He told fond stories of going to the theatre and soccer matches with Kwan Tak-hing (a famous actor who portrayed Wong Fei Hong in many movies) and discussing how the Kung Fu in movies was so different to a real fight.
I’ve often said if you want to drink clean water you go to the source of the river. For me Tennyson portrayed that source. Thrice removed from the greatest martial artist in history, his knowledge was very deep and pure. I can’t claim to be any where near as good as Tennyson was but I’ve done my best to absorb everything he taught me and I’ll do my best to keep that knowledge alive. Hopefully after my passing as well.
The History of Hung Gar
I have compiled all the myths and legends I could find online. It can’t be claimed to be accurate or even true in some cases as there is no real proof. With the exception of Dr Tennyson Yiu. Obviously I knew him personally and his history has come from his own mouth. If you are interested in learning a more accurate history of Hung Gar Kung Fu which has been extensively and thouroughly researched then I recommend you read Hung Kuen Training by Lam Chun Fei & Hing Chao. The myths and legends are interesting however, and you can find the full version of my article here.
