Vital step is a martial arts school that offers a holistic exercise regime.

At Vital Step we empower the practitioner through increasing confidence, memory, spiritual well-being, and overall fitness. In martial arts terms, a ‘Vital Step’ is a regenerative step which reinvigorates your stance and strengthens your root for maximum power in your next movement.

 
 
 

Hung Gar Kung Fu

Hung Gar is a Southern Style martial art which features a strong stance and solid handwork. Hung Gar is explosive in it’s power and it’s ancestral practitioners are heralded as highly competent fighters (Wong Fei-hung and Lam Sai-wing are considered folk heroes of martial arts). We offer both Taming the Tiger and Tiger and Crane forms to our students with a focus on the martial applications of the style - these two forms comprise the basis of Hung Gar and are a great option for beginners in traditional Chinese martial arts.

Tai Chi Chuan

Perhaps the most well-known of the internal martial arts, Tai Chi Chuan is a beautiful art form as well as destructive martial art when in the hands of a competent practitioner. This martial art is practiced for it’s notable health benefits such as balance, emotional regulation, co-ordination, and strengthening of ‘the root’. Tai Chi can be a lifelong passion and it is said practicing it “will improve one’s character”. We offer several forms of Tai Chi at Vital Step including Yang-Style Long Form (108 Form), Taoist Spiritual Tai Chi, and Chen-Style Cannon Fist.
